I’m still in slow motion on the blog front, with our residency in Baie-St-Paul starting in just short of a week we’ve been intensely preparing to move our whole studio 500km away and getting the new installation ready to print. I know , excuses , excuses right?

Well we’re catching up some more on the past few months. I already posted the collaborative print we made with Nick Butcher and Nadine Nakanishi of Sonnenzimmer. Making this print was a blast and a way to have a peek into the working methods of 2 artists we admire greatly. It also gave us a perfect excuse to hang around , shoot the shit and nerd out about printmaking and it’s possibilities.

Here are a few snaps we took of the work process & their beautiful and immaculate Chicago studio.

Since our return from Vienna (which was so awesome , pics soon I promise) we’ve barely gotten a moment’s sleep as we’ve been deep in the planning stages for our next installation that will be printing and exhibiting at The Baie-St-Paul Symposium of Contemporary Art while trying to not melt in 34 celsius weather.

With its major summer exhibition Street and Studio the Kunsthalle Wien brings the rough style of the street into the exhibition hall. Urbanity and mobility characterize a contemporary generation of artists who regard the metropolis both as their source of inspiration and means of expression: the US painter Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose work constitutes a landmark for various forms of painting and video art relating to urban or suburban cultures, provides the center of gravity for the show. From this starting-point, the presentation unfolds a network of positions that share a vitality induced by the street and urbanity and spans from the results of Basquiat’s productive collaboration with other artists such as Andy Warhol, Francesco Clemente, or Keith Haring to works by younger artists like Rita Ackermann or Séripop. Having never ceased to pervade pop culture since its emergence, this subversive pictorial language tells of the quest for identity, political responsibility, the commercialization of public space, and the fight for survival caused by social injustice.

With 32 artistic positions from 19 nations the show addresses both art historical key figures such as Blek le Rat, Jenny Holzer, or Sophie Calle and contemporary artists from Kader Attia and Brad Downey, Christian Eisenberger, Basim Magdy, and Ari Marcopoulos to Evan Roth and Rita Vitorelli, who are represented by new works created for the exhibition.

On our recent trip to Chicago , we spent an entire day drawing , printing , eating and taking with Nick Butcher and Nadine Nakanishi of Sonnenzimmer. This print was the result of a very natural and easy going collaboration process.

We’ve teamed up with Soundscreen Design from Brooklyn AGAIN You might remember the delux t-shirts we did with them) to produce a book of our posters and record cover as part of their Art Music Journal series.

So far the series has also published books by Hisham Bharoocha , Daniel Higgs , Bongout , Post Typography , Shaun Flynn , Jason Yates , EE Storey and most recently Bjorn Copeland. Each book is 24 pages , comes packaged in a 10″ record sleeve and is themed on the artist’s relationship with music.

For our book we included our best music related work , with line art and some process images. There’s also an introduction By Ben Pobjoy of Emporium Gallery.

-We are heading to Paris next week for a joint show with Paprika at Gallerie Anatome. The opening is on the 6th.

-We are in a pretty exciting group show in Vienna this summer. It’s at the Kunsthalle Wien and is titled Street and Studio : From Basquiat to Seripop..It opens June 24th and runs untill October 10th.

-We will be taking part in Baie-Saint-Paul’s 28th International Symposium of Contemporary Art as invited artists in residence this summer. We’ll be spending the entire month of August there making a new body of work.

-As soon as we get back from Paris we’ll be working on a new series of art prints – yay!
